PROFESSIONAL CONTRIBUTIONS AND STANDING

Professor Dwyer is best known as a historian of eighteenth-century Scottish philosophy and culture, with particular emphasis on Adam Smith and sentimental literature. His scholarly books have been reviewed and recommended by British newspapers as well as academic journals. In addition to contributions to the field, he has also written a widely used textbook on Canadian business history and a critical skills book for university and college students.

The candidate also has a reputation outside the academy as a consultant to universities, colleges and faculties on program development and assessment. He is well-known for his pedagogic contributions to distance education (correspondence and online) at North Island College, Atkinson College at York University, and Athabasca University in Alberta. He also created and hosted a television series (The Long Look Back) for cable television on Vancouver Island in British Columbia.
